Repentance
[9:16]
Do you [O believers] think that you will be spared unless God takes cognizance of your having striven hard [in His cause] without seeking help from any but God and His Apostle and those who believe in Him? For, God is aware of all that you do.

* v.16 : Lit., “left [alone],” i.e., without being tried by means of suffering and hardship.
* Lit., “while God has not yet taken cognizance of those of you who have striven hard.” For an explanation of God’s “taking cognizance,” see 3:142 and the corresponding note.
* Lit., “without having taken any intimate helper (walījah) other than God and His Apostle and the believers.”
